The Morgan Dollar is considered by many the "True" coin of the fabled Wild West. Made out of nearly 1 full ounce of .900 pure silver from the famous Comstock Lode silver discovery. It was 1st struck in 1878 and continued until 1904 and then again for one final year in 1921.
This Morgan dollar was struck at the New Orleans Mint. The New Orleans Mint is the only Southern Mint to strike the Morgan Dollar. Its 1st year of production was in 1879 and it ended its production in 1904. The New Orleans Mint produced 24.66 % of all Morgan dollars issued. The New Orleans Morgan dollar bears the "O" Mint Mark. It can be located on the back of the coin below the Eagle...the "O" mint mark is present above the letters "O" and "L" in the word "Dollar." This 1883 New Orleans Mint Morgan dollar is ranked number 63 with a mintage of 8,725,000. It also holds the place of 16 out of 26 from Morgan dollars made at the New Orleans Mint. This New Orleans Mint Morgan dollar is in Uncirculated condition. It has been held by a bank or a private individual since the day it was struck, never being released into circulation.
