The "Secret" Silver Eisenhower Dollars: The 1971 Brown and Blue Pack Pair

General Dwight D. Eisenhower was one of the more influential men in American history. In fact, he was so important that the nation decided to give him one of our nation's highest honors: his very own coin! On July 27, 1971, President Nixon presented the first Proof Eisenhower Dollar, fresh off the presses of the San Francisco Mint, to former First Lady Mrs. Mamie Eisenhower at a White House reception. This solemn ceremony began one of the mint's most popular coin series: the Eisenhower Dollar.

The "Ike" Dollar as it became known, was one of the hottest collector's coins to be released from the U.S. Mint in years! This popularity continued to grow when word got out about the special "Brown and Blue" packs released by the San Francisco Mint that were just for collectors! We scoured the nation and have put together a limited number of 2 pc. sets containing BOTH 1971 'Secret' Eisenhower Dollars still sealed in their original government packaging!

The 1971 Eisenhower Dollar: Over 100 Million Strong

The Philadelphia and Denver Mints actually struck this new Eisenhower Dollar for circulation in a brand new metal type never used before by the United States Mint: copper-nickel clad (sometimes referred to as "cupro-nickel clad"). Due to its popularity and widespread use, the Eisenhower Dollars produced by these two mint's totaled in excess of 100 million coins. In fact, more Eisenhower Dollars were produced in 1971 than it's predecessor, the Peace Dollar, did in its entire final decade of production!

The Old Granite Lady's 'Secret' Silver Dollars

The special release Eisenhower Dollar presented to the former First Lady was a San Francisco Mint Silver Proof issue... making it one of the sought after "Secret Eisenhower Dollars." The San Francisco Mint struck two coins in 1971, an Uncirculated version (known as the "blue pack"-because of its iconic blue packaging) and a Proof version (known as a "brown pack").

Both versions of the coin were special silver issues made by the U.S. Mint with neither being released into circulation (hence their 'Secret' name). These special collector sets were produced from 1971-1974 and the KEY pieces to any Eisenhower Dollar Collection!

The Numbers tell the true story: These San Francisco Brown and Blue Packs from 1971 make up less than 3% of all 1971 Eisenhower Dollars!
