The year 2000 not only introduced the new millennium but it was also the 1st year of issuance of America's newest dollar, introducing the Golden Sacagawea Dollar.
This is a PROOF Sacagawea coin. The term Proof represents when the coins raised images take on a frosted appearance and the polished fields have a mirror-like finish. Since it's inception, the United States Mint has produced three versions of this brilliant Golden Dollar. Two are produced generally for circulation and are struck at the Philadelphia and the Denver Mints. They are sometimes referenced as "P" and the "D" Mint coins. The third is a special issue just for collectors, known as the Proof. This version is produced at the San Francisco Mint. The United States Mint hasn't released the Sacagawea Dollar into circulation since 2001...easily making the last 7 years (2002-2008) key years due to the extreme limited production. The Sacagawea Golden Dollar was rated the most popular coin for the year 2000.
