About this Product Full Product Name

The Return of the Original...this time in Proof!

The original ‘Lion Dollar’ was produced by the Royal Dutch Mint and is considered to be the first silver dollar circulated and in-use in the ‘New World’ (The Americas and Caribbean)... in fact, if you check out your Official Red-Book, you will see that this silver dollar is literally the second coin shown!

These 2018 releases are in stunning Proof condition and are struck from .999 fine silver.

The original Silver Lion Dollars were known as “Daalders” amongst the Dutch and were heavily used in the colony of New Amsterdam, a Dutch Colony in what is now New York state. This name, when combined with the commonly used German word “Thaller”, led to the creation of the denomination we still use today: The “Dollar”!

Did You Know? At One Time, German was the most-spoken language amongst the Newly-Liberated Thirteen Colonies...this led to a serious debate about German possibly becoming the official language of the United States of America! Officially, the U.S. has no official language thanks to the continuation of this incredibly-spirited debate!

“If it Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix it!”

The design of this new 2018 Silver Dollar is something special, in the sense that it is not a new design at all...in fact, it is the exact opposite! These new silver lions bear the same exact design struck by the Royal Dutch Mint several centuries ago: A reverse featuring an Armored Knight holding the Dutch Coat-of-Arms, and an obverse displaying the Rampant Lion, the ‘King of Beasts’, with its sharp claws raised and at the ready.
