In 1999, the year prior to the Sacagawea Golden Dollar, the U.S. Mint released a Susan B. Anthony dollar.... but it was never released into circulation! Was it meant to be a secret? Probably not! But with so few made, it can easily be slated that no one knew about it...until now!
Issued by legislation on October 10, 1978, it was to represent and honor the pioneer in women's rights.
The initials "FG", representing Frank Gasparo, the Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, are located below the portrait of Susan B. Anthony and the Eagle on both the obverse and reverse of the coin.
