Postumus

A Roman soldier of great merit, he was appointed Commander of the Rhine legions by Emperor Valerian. In 259, he rebelled against Gallienus and ruled over a vast area of land that covered Gaul, Spain, and Britain. He was able to hold off the German tribes and Gallienus to remain in power. In 268, he stopped a rebellion in his lands but was killed by his own soldiers during the aftermath when he refused to let them sack their own cities.
