Prior to the Silver Eagle being released in 1986, the
Trade Dollar was America’s largest silver dollar by weight. Trade Dollars were
produced from 1873 through 1885 and were intended for circulation in Asia to
compete with crown-sized coins from around the world, most of the production
was sent to China. Many pieces
that circulated in Asia were counter-stamped with Chinese characters known as
chopmarks.
Add an interesting and unusual piece to your silver coin
collection. Minted from 90% silver, this coin represents a unique period in
late 19th-century American coinage and has a rich history. Third party encapsulation is recommended due
to the presence of counterfeit Trade Dollars on the market.
