About this Product Full Product Name

The U.S. Mint's 1st-ever 'Special Issue' coins struck for the 1893 Columbian World's Fair

These Columbus Half Dollars were also the first coinage in the history of the U.S. Mint to bear the likeness of a true to history human being: the great explorer, Christopher Columbus.

With a portrait of the great explorer and discoverer Christopher Columbus on the obverse, and a representation of Columbus' flagship the Santa Maria above two hemispheres on the reverse, these special half dollars are truly special.

They were minted to both raise funds for the Columbian World’s Fair coming in 1893, as well as to celebrate the quadricentennial of Columbus’ first voyage to the American Continent.

These coins would have a total mintage of just 2,500,405 across both years of issue.

Each Christopher Columbus Silver Half Dollar Pair will arrive encapsulated in our Defender Holder.
