In the Morgan Dollar series, no coins are more sought-after than the rare silver dollars struck at the fabled Carson City Mint in Nevada. The Carson City Mint struck the Morgan Dollar from 1878 until 1893 -- and when the series came to a close, less than 3% of all Morgan Dollars would be struck by the iconic 'Wild West' mint.
Despite closing its doors in 1893, the final time we would see the 'CC' mint mark struck onto a Morgan Silver Dollar would not be for another seven years in 1900... all the way over at the New Orleans Mint.
Once the Carson City Mint closed its doors in 1893, the U.S. Mint decided to repurpose all of the already built Carson City Mint Morgan Dollar dies at the Philadelphia Mint and send them down to New Orleans to help the struggling southern Mint strike more silver dollars... the only problem was that sometimes they didn't fully get rid of the iconic 'CC' mint mark and the first few coins struck with those dies would have their regular 'O' mint mark for New Orleans, with the 'CC' for Carson City still somewhat visible!
These special Morgan Dollar immediately became must-have collector's coins due to their dual status as a U.S. Mint Error Strike and a 'Carson City Mint Mark' Morgan Dollar that was struck seven years after the Mint closed.
As of today, there are just 12,714 coins known to exist in any condition with NGC and PCGS with this rare Error Strike (as of 10-20-2023).
Each 1900 O Over CC Morgan Dollar will arrive certified by NGC as being an authentic U.S. Mint Error Strike.
