About this Product Full Product Name

This Silver Dollar honors two of the most influential men who fought in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War -- our 1st Commander-in-Chief George Washington, and a Frenchman simply known in the Colonies as 'Lafayette'.

A beloved ally of the American people and their fight for freedom, his full name and title was Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier de La Fayette, Marquis de La Fayette -- though to his American brothers-in-arms he simply was 'Lafayette'.

When he was not even 20 years old, he risked both his life and family fortune when he chose to raise funds for French soldiers to accompany him to America to aid the colonists in their fight against the hated British Monarchy. Although he was wounded at the Battle of Brandywine, he would serve the entire duration of the war for a cause and people he truly believed in.

In fact, he was so beloved by the American people that in 1824 when the French hero visited the United States once again, he was given the grandest of welcomes.

He would tour all 24 states at the time and was designated by Congress as 'the Nation’s guest.' The relationship between America and France has been close ever since that time, with one of the most stunning examples being France’s gift to America of the Statue of Liberty in 1886.

Each Washington - Lafayette Silver Dollar will arrive in Super-Slider quality condition, encapsulated, and in a collector's pouch.
