The Ultimate Statue of Liberty Collection: A 4pc. Set Honoring our Iconic Lady Liberty

Go anywhere in the U.S. and ask them this question: “What symbols best represents American Freedom?” and chances are you would get predominantly one answer: The majestic Statue of Liberty on Ellis Island. The Statue, representing our Lady Liberty raising her torch and enlightening the world, is truly emblematic of what the United States of America stands for.

The Statue of Liberty is a true American icon, and it wasn’t even originally from the United States! The statue was a gift celebrating both American and French citizen’s independence and at the time of delivery also celebrated over a century of friendship between the two nations. We have put together a handful of special 4pc. sets that contain all FOUR of the Silver Dollars and Half Dollars minted to honor the Statue of Liberty in 1986!

The Statue of Liberty’s Very Own Silver Dollars...

In 1986 the U.S. Mint began production of a special 90% silver dollar to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty’s construction. It was produced in both Proof and Uncirculated versions, with each featuring the same design: The obverse bears the full figure of the iconic statue with the Ellis Island Immigration Center in the background. The reverse depicts her torch with the historic words: "Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor, Your Huddled Masses Yearning to Breathe Free" struck into the field of the coin.

Uniquely enough, this is the first coin in U.S. history to actually show the Statue! The Uncirculated version was struck at Philadelphia, while the Proof was struck in San Francisco.

...and the special Half Dollars that Honor our Ancestors!

While the silver dollars received much of the fanfare, the U.S. Mint also produced two special half dollars, one in Proof and the other in Uncirculated condition. These half dollars pay homage to the familial roots that many of us can trace all the way back to their arrival on Ellis Island!

The obverse design of these Half Dollars features a ship of immigrants steaming into the New York Harbor, greeted by the Statue of Liberty in the foreground, with the New York skyline in the distance. The reverse shows a scene of an immigrant family with their belongings on the threshold of America and the freedoms it will grant them.
