Don't Pass the Torch on this "Secret" Special Release: Silver Olympic Proof Dollar!

Starting tonight the 2016 Summer Olympic Games begins in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. With athletes from countries the world over preparing for their life's greatest stage, and with their nations cheering the T.V. on back home, Olympic fever has truly begun to take the world by storm!

What many collectors don't know is that the United States Mint actually created a special release silver dollar way back in 1988 for the Summer Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea! These 'secret' silver dollars are a collector's dream, and very hard to find in collector's quality proof condition.

The Olympic Highlights:
This 1988 special release silver dollar is made from 90% Silver
Minted at the Old Granite Lady (San Francisco Mint)
Obverse: displays two hands, with the one on the left side holding the "runner's torch" (the one that travels the world in the years leading up to the games) while lighting the Olympic Torch being held by the hand on the right (this is the torch that lights the fire to officially start the games!)
Reverse: Olive Branches frame the design on both sides, with the center of the design being the letters 'USA' above the 5 Olympic rings. The Motto 'E Pluribus Unum' sits just below the 5 rings.
Mintage: 1,359,366
The Reverse was Designed by Sherl Joseph Winter, while the obverse was created by Patricia Lewis Vernai.
