1997 Franklin D Roosevelt $5 Gold - Proof (OGP)

This is the Roosevelt coin that everybody forgot -- it was released back in 1997 and it is the only gold coin in U.S. Mint history to honor our 32nd President.

The proceeds from the sale of this special gold coin went towards the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial Commission.

The design is something truly special that the former president would have loved:

The obverse was based on one of his favorite photos taken back in 1938, that showed the Commander-In-Chief standing at the bridge of the U.S. Houston while wearing a boat cloak.

The reverse design was a recreation of the Presidential seal displayed at FDR's 1933 inaugural.

They would strike just 18,222 total coins in Proof condition -- making it one of the rarest gold coins in U.S. History!
