1997 Law Enforcement Silver Dollar - Uncirculated

Since the founding of the United States of America, we have relied upon Law Enforcement officers to protect the innocent and bring those who would harm them to justice. In recent years it has become a profession reserved for the brave few willing to risk their lives daily.

Today is National Law Enforcement day and we decided to bring back a special silver dollar that was minted in honor of our brave defenders of peace throughout the United States: The 1997 Law Enforcement Silver Dollar!

This special silver dollar was issued in 1997 on the sixth anniversary of the dedication of the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial in Washington, D.C. and is truly one of the more somber coins ever produced by the United States of America.

Each coin is struck from .999 Fine Silver and features a striking design depicting two National Park Police Officers at the Memorial itself making a rubbing of one of their fallen comrades names. This image was based on an actual photograph taken at the Memorial shortly after being built by Larry Ruggieri. Alongside this design are the engravings "National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial", "In God We Trust" and "Liberty 1997".

The obverse of the design features a shield with a rose across it to represent the honorable sacrifices made by officers in the line of duty. Also prominent are the engravings "To Serve and Protect", "E Pluribus Unum", and the denomination ($1).

When it comes to collecting, quality and rarity is often the name of the game...and quite simply put, it is hard to find a rarer coin than this late 90s silver dollar! These uncirculated silver dollars were originally intended to have a maximum mintage of 500,000 but when all was said and done, the final production numbers were simply staggering! In fact, there are only 9 other special issue silver dollars that are rarer than this coin! That's right, this uncirculated silver dollar ranks 10th all-time with a mintage of just 25,136!
