About this Product Full Product Name

The 1st and Last Buffalo Nickels ever made

When the coin first came out in 1913, the iconic Buffalo design had a more prominent 'raised mound' that the titular Buffalo would stand on. This original design, while beautiful looking, was not built to stand up to the test of circulation. Very quickly these original-design coins would have their dates worn down, a major issue for the U.S. Mint.

Due to these issues, they would release an updated 'Type II' Buffalo Nickel design later in 1913 that had a cut-out for the date built into the mound -- as opposed to being stamped on top of it, like the Type I.

If it were not for the bad design placement of the date which wore off quickly, it is possible that this coin would still be in service today.

The coins would then be struck for another 25 years -- with the last coins struck at the Mile High Mint in Denver in 1938.

We have put together a number of 2-coin sets that contain the 1913 Type 2 Buffalo Nickel and the 1938-D -- with both coins in stunning uncirculated condition.

Each 2pc. set will arrive with both coins encapsulated and in uncirculated condition.
