2019 Apollo 11 50th Anniversary 2 pc. Proof Half Dollar Collection

There have only been a handful of moments in human history that the entire world has stopped and said “Wow!”...and none was more iconic than the mission of Apollo 11: to be the first human beings to set foot on the Moon! This special set not only had the proof version of the beautiful, curved 2019 Apollo Half-Dollar, but it also contained the first-ever Kennedy half dollar to be struck in stunning Enhanced Reverse Proof condition!

This set is something truly special: Not only does it honor one of America’s crowning achievements in science, the Apollo 11 Mission & our first steps on the Moon, but it also has one of the most sought after Kennedy Half Dollars created in recent memory – the 2019 Enhanced Reverse Proof!

Struck alongside the 2019 Apollo 11 Silver Dollars, this coin was the collecting secret of 2019! It was the first time a Kennedy Half Dollar had ever been struck in this finish – making it an immediate collecting icon!

Each of the 2019 Apollo 11 Half Dollars will feature a unique design on both sides. The obverse design features a detailed image of the astronaut’s footprints left on the Moon’s surface. Around the edges of the obverse design are the inscriptions “Mercury”, “Gemini”, and “Apollo”, separated by phases of the moon along the top. The reverse of each coin features a close-up of the famous “Buzz Aldrin on the Moon” photograph that was taken on July 20th, 1969. This special image shows just the visor and part of the Helmet of Buzz Aldrin... within Buzz’s visor’s reflection, you can see another astronaut, the Lander itself, and the iconic American Flag they planted.

The United States Mint decided that for this special 50th-anniversary release, there would only be 100,000 of this special 2pc. proof half dollar sets allowed. Once the dust settled a year later, they had only produced 99,911 total sets – immediately making this collection one of the most sought-after releases of 2019!
