2022 English Britannia 1oz Silver

The Bank of England has been issuing the "Britannia" since 1997, and this coming year (2022) marks the 25th Anniversary of the piece! Outside of the American Silver Eagle, the Britannia is one of the most collected silver dollars in the entire world! We are proud to announce the arrival of the newest edition in the historic 1oz. silver series, the 2022 Britannia!

The design of this stunning coin features Britannia, the UK version of our ‘Lady Liberty’, standing strong against the powerful and biting winds the United Kingdom is known for among sailors. In her hands are the Trident and a shield featuring the Union Jack, atop her head is an ancient Greek style helmet. The edges of the coin feature engravings stating the coins denomination, weight, year of issue, and ‘Britannia’.

A Radial Sunburst was added to the background of the coin’s design to help prevent counterfeiting in prior years. This year’s issue now has an additional ‘mint-mark circle’ that sits next to Britannia’s feet (this circle has an image that can only been seen when the coin is moved – similar to the colored numbers/backgrounds on newer U.S. Currency Notes).

The Average mintage for these coins from 2004-2012 was just above 100,000 coins per year, making these 1 oz. Silver Britannia’s one of the rarest silver dollars collected annually!

Obverse: A stoic depiction of Britannia standing amid the eye of the storm with her Trident and her Shield (featuring the Union Jack) at the ready. A Radial Sunburst is also added to the background to prevent counterfeiting. An additional ‘mint-mark circle’ was added that sits next to Britannia’s feet.
