The Royal Mint and the United States Mint aren't the only ones making special coins to celebrate the anniversary of D-Day and WWII!

The Channel Island of Alderney off the coast of Normandy is also getting in on the action -- especially since they were just as impacted as WWII as some of the major global powers due to their position between France and England during the war!

Their position as the northernmost Channel Island and closest to Normandy, France made them an extremely important strategic location -- and when the Nazi's rolled into France in 1940 -- the entire population of 1,500 was relocated to the British mainland for the duration of the war due to Nazi occupation and fortification.

Their special uncirculated 1oz silver dollar features a stunning image of Allied soldier marching on the beaches of Normandy, with the waves and anti-tank fortifications known as 'Czech Hedgehogs' to their left.
