The Symbols Of American Freedom: Proof Silver Dollar Set!

Go anywhere in the world, and ask them this question: "What two symbols best represent American Freedom?" chances are you would get predominantly two answers: The majestic Statue of Liberty on Ellis Island and a piece of paper known as the constitution of the United States of America. The Statue, representing our Lady Liberty enlightening the world, and the constitution, the piece of paper containing the ideals upon which this great nation was built, truly represent what "American Freedom" is. So today, to celebrate that freedom, we bring to you: The Symbols of American Freedom Proof Silver Dollar Pair!

The Statue of Liberty

In 1986 the U.S. Mint began production of a special 90% silver dollar to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the statue of liberty's construction. The obverse bears the full figure of the statue with the Ellis Island Immigration center in the Background...while the reverse depicts her torch with the iconic words..."Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor, Your Huddled Masses Yearning to Breathe Free" struck into the field of the coin. Uniquely enough, this is the 1st coin in U.S. History to actually show the statue. The Statue of Liberty Silver Dollar in this set is a special mirrored Proof Edition struck at the San Francisco Mint.

The Constitution

The Statue of Liberty is a more visible symbol but the Constitution, the piece of paper that differentiates us as individual Americans from the rest of the world, is the real McCoy. To mark the significance the U.S. Mint released a special 90% silver dollar in 1987 for the 200th Anniversary of its signing by our founding fathers. The obverse design details the constitution in the background with a quill pen prominently imposed over it and the first three words..."We the People". The reverse bears a literal cross section of Americans...each hailing from the very different periods of our history, all standing together despite their contrasting life styles. One side...showing the strength of a nation bound by the words written by brave men over 228 years ago...while the other contains the American people in mass to defend it. This beautiful collector's piece is also in collector's proof condition, and was minted at the San Francisco Mint.
