United States Mint 20 Cent Piece

The Double Dime, or 20-cent coin, had one of the shortest minting tenures in U.S. coin history. It was minted from 1875 to 1878, but only released for circulation for two years: 1875 and 1876.

With these coins only being produced for circulation for two years, this Double Dime also goes down in history as having one of the smallest mintages EVER with less than 1.4 million total coins produced!

Unfortunately, the U.S. Mint didn't have their thinking caps on when the topic of the 20-cent piece came up.

For starters, they messed up the size by making it 22 mm in diameter -- the quarter currently being produced was 24 mm in size.

Then to compound their initial mistake, they were also lazy with the design choice -- it was nearly identical to the currently circulating Seated Liberty Quarter.

Did You Know? The Double Dime was the first ‘oops’ coin from the U.S. Mint in relation to the confusion it caused among businesses. The 1883 'No Cents' Nickel, and the whole “joshing” incident it created, didn't come along for another eight years.

Each coin will arrive encapsulated and in collector's quality circulated condition.
