American Silver Eagle dollar coins are a popular choice among coin collectors. These coins are the official silver bullion of the United States and have been produced since 1986. Over 500 million American Silver Eagles have been minted, making them one of the most widely collected coins in the world today.
The design of the American Silver Eagle is based on the "Walking Liberty Half Dollar" created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman. The front of the coin features Lady Liberty walking against a backdrop of sunrise and an American Flag. Until 2021, the reverse featured an eagle swooping down with olive branches in its talons, surrounded by thirteen stars which represent the original colonies, becoming known as the "Heraldic Eagle". 2021 featured two different designs often referred to as "Type 1" and "Type 2" by collectors. The "Heraldic Eagle" design on the reverse was replaced with the "Landing Eagle".
The American Silver Eagle coins are made from .999 fine silver, which is one of the purest types of silver available. This makes them highly sought after by collectors.
