About this Product Full Product Name

On May 23, 1788, South Carolina became the eighth state to ratify the United States Constitution. As a result, South Carolina is the eighth state to be featured in the Americas State Quarter Collection. South Carolinas Quarter design is a montage of all of the states symbols: An outline of the state with the capital, Columbia, indicated by a star. The Carolina wren, which became the state bird in 1939 and symbolizes the hospitality of the states people. A Yellow jessamine, the official state flower. Finally, a Palmetto tree, which has been a part of the state flag since 1861, and the official state state tree. It represents South Carolinas strength.

In early 2007, the world media reported a MAJOR U.S. MINT COINAGE ERROR, the new George Washington Dollar was struck without the edge lettering...the "Godless Dollar!" This created a frenzy. So much so that the U.S. Mint was forced to move part of the edge lettering to the front of the coins' design starting in 2009.

Yet...no one has mentioned or reported the BIGGEST news story to come out of the 50 State Quarter Program since it began in 1999, a Quarter, also made with a smooth edge. All U.S. Quarters, Proof and Uncirculated, are struck with a reeded edge. This quarter was struck out of collar, resulting in these "smooth edge" quarters.

Each of these South Carolina smooth edge errors have been independently certified as authentic U.S. Mint Errors. Earlier this year we discovered a small number of Missouri Smooth Edge Quarters, and they sold out instantly. This South Carolina Smooth Edge is the first we've seen in 3 months and like the Missouri's, they are independently certified.

How many are out there? All I can tell you, is we have 6 available. Remember, the South Carolina Quarter was released nearly 9 years ago, and this small pocket is the only known uncovered.
