A Historic State Quarter Coin Program
The 50 State Quarters Program began in 1999 and continued through 2008. During this ten-year period, the program released five new state quarters each year, following the order in which the states ratified the Constitution or joined the Union. The obverse of each coin features the familiar image of George Washington, while the reverse side showcases unique designs representing the history, landmarks, and symbols of each state.
The process of selecting these designs was highly collaborative, involving the U.S. Mint, the governor of each state, and the public. The U.S. Mint worked closely with state officials and residents to ensure that each coin captured the essence of the state it represents. This extensive selection process included design submissions, reviews, and even public voting in some cases, ultimately leading to the stunning and meaningful artwork found on each quarter.
