About this Product Full Product Name

The Alaska State Quarter is the 49th in the original 50 State Quarter Series. This coin is the fourth, of five to be released in 2008. Like all previous State Quarters, the Alaska State Quarter was struck for circulation at both the Phialdelphia and the Denver Mints. The coin can be identified with the "P" or the "D" mint mark that appears under "In God We Trust" on the obverse. The mintage was limited to approx 10 weeks, before the production started on the next quarter, Hawaii.

Alaska is the home to many national parks including Glacier Bay, Denali and Katmai that help preserve the state's natural beauty and its remarkable wildlife.

On April 26, 2007 Alaska's Governor, Sarah Palin announced the winning design: a grizzly bear emerging from a river with a salmon in its mouth. The grizzly bear is a symbol of Alaska's wildlife. The coin also includes the North Star to the right of the state name; the star represents Alaska as the northernmost state. The design is completed with the inscription, "The Great Land."

This roll pair contains 40 uncirculated Denver Minted and 40 Uncirculated Philadelphia Minted Quarters taken out from Government sewn bags. Please keep the coins in their protective tube holder provided to maintain their uncirculated condition.

In December 1997, America's most adventurous coin program became a reality when President Clinton signed legislation authorizing the U.S. Mint to issue the innovative 50 State Quarters collection. Starting in January 1999, each of the 50 states in the Union will be honored on a unique Quarter Dollar commemorative coin. As a result, mintages of each quarter only are to be just a fraction of the "normal" quarters are. The mint marks can be found to the right of George Washington's portrait on the obverse: the small "P" indicates the Philadelphia Mint and the small "D" refers to the Denver.
