The United States America the Beautiful Quarter Program
The 2011 Glacier Quarter is the SEVENTH coin in the United States America the Beautiful Quarter Series. The series began in 2010 and honors one national park from each of the 50 States as well as Washington D.C. and the five territories.
This second year of releases will include: Gettysburg, Glacier, Olympic, Vicksburg & Chickasaw. . There will be 5 Quarters released each year. Like the State Quarters, each quarter will be minted from the Philadelphia and the Denver Mint. The obverse design showing George Washington remains unchanged, while the reverse design reflects the National Park that is being honored.
The Glacier National Park Quarter features a scene from the park. The northeast slope of Mount Reynolds is in the distance, while a mountain goat in the park high country is in the foreground. Mount Reynolds dominates the scenery of Glacier National Park. A glacial horn, its pyramid-like peak was formed by glaciers which eroded the sides of the mountain. The mountain goat is one of 62 species of mammals that can be found within the park.
