Dr. Sally Ride Quarters
Dr. Sally Ride was the first American woman to venture into space and the youngest American astronaut to do so in history at just 32-years-old! She was a renowned physicist, astronaut, and educator. After her historic space flights, she wrote several science books, became a Professor of Physics at the University of California, and was the director of the California Space Institute. Her book “The Third Planet: Exploring Earth from Space” won the American Institute of Physics’ Children’s Science Writing Award in 1995.
Sally Ride was the second woman honored in the American Women Quarter Series from the United States mint in 2022.
